Why retainer packages are beneficial to small businesses

A few months ago, I listened to a podcast with a woman who made her own paleo skincare line. After the podcast, I decided to try out her facial serum. It’s safe to say, I absolutely loved it and decided to make the switch. After a few months of reordering the serum because I kept “just wanting to see if it was right”, I finally bit the bullet and signed onto a subscription package, where I paid a discounted price and the serum was mailed to my door every 2 months.

I realized I had purchased the serum at least 3 times until I went with the subscription package and realized how much money I had wasted by doing that. Not to mention how many times I had ran out without knowing and had to go back to my old moisturizer for a few days while I waited for the serum to mail.

Just like these subscription packages for skincare, toothpaste, clothes, etc, retainer packages with a service-based business are known to be more beneficial than one-off packages when you consider time and money.

At HB Designs, we are so excited to announce that we are now offering retainer packages for small business owners.

What is a retainer package?
A retainer package is a package that you pay a flat rate fee per month for a set number of services. Normally retainer packages get priority over one-off or last minute projects. Retainer packages allow a service provider to get to know the company to create much more value than someone that collaborates on a project-to-project basis.

What is included in a retainer package?
The great thing about a retainer package is that it can be customized to each business, but mostly retainer packages include a set amount of hours a month to work on projects that the small business needs.

One way to get the most bang for your buck out of a retainer package is to have your designer work on ongoing projects, like: marketing calendars, social media, seasonal and ongoing marketing and print campaigns, etc. When you have a designer working on ongoing projects, it teaches you the process or system so that you can continue after the retainer work is completed.

Why are retainers beneficial?
Instead of hiring people to step into your business for a short amount of time and be expected to learn about your business in a matter of days, a retainer package allows you to build a long-term partnership with someone who will learn the ins and outs of your business over the course of several months to a year.

Instead of expecting someone who comes in for a project or two to see holes that they could help fill, and be able to add some sort of value, with a retainer, they will be able to really understand and create value for your business long-term.

Who would a retainer package be a good fit for?
Any small business who needs help building, sustaining or maintaining their branding or marketing. And a business who has the budget to spend around $500-1000 a month.

The aesthetics and design pieces are really nice when a client partners with me for a retainer package, but what’s been most beneficial to my clients is that they don’t have to do it all alone and they have the opinion and advice of a seasoned designer who can add meaningful details to the process and see holes in their business.

I never approached you because I assumed we couldn’t work together because I already had an “established” brand. Now after working with you, I LOVE how you tapped into it and have made it appear that it’s still me, only better!
